1. Special Need Patients

Special needs patients require a comprehensive dental treatment plan to promote good oral health. People of all ages may have special conditions:

  • Autism
  • Down Syndrome
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Parkinson’s
  • Alzheimer’s
  • Epilepsy
  • Cardiac Issues
  • Transplant Preparation Needs
  • Chemotherapy Preparation
  • Anxiety
  • Dental Phobia

Typically we have (2) challenges:

1. To acquire the information needed in a comprehensive and concise matter. This allows the dentist to diagnosis and to formulate a treatment plan.

2. The second challenge is to manage the patient to perform the quality dental work needed in an expeditious manner.

Traditional dental x-rays can be cumbersome and cause many of us to gag. This makes it difficult to acquire the information needed to see dental problems, like cavities. Being able to treat dental problems at an early stage is cost effective and saves teeth.

Our new FDA approved Planmeca 3D CBCT imaging machine offers unsurpassed technology, the leading 3-D imaging company. In a matter of seconds, we can perform an exact radiographic exam from outside the mouth. No more gagging, no x-rays in the mouth! Our machine is wheel chair accessible. Your x-ray information will be provided to you and your doctor.

We offer I.V. sedation. Patients needing root canal treatment or any work that cannot be performed by your dentist, we can help. Sedation allows our doctors to manage patients effectively and in fewer visits. Saving teeth by delivering quality treatment allows for better oral health.

2. Dentistry While You Sleep

Our endodontic practice is the first to team up with an anesthesia group, to provide your comfortable sedation dentistry. A licensed anesthesiologist will sedate and monitor you, while we perform your endodontic procedure for you in a comfortable environment. This allows us to concentrate on your teeth only.

We all have encountered a friend, relative, or neighbor that avoids the dentist, but really would like to save a tooth. Many people will avoid the dentist because of:

• Dental anxiety
• Fear of needles
• Traumatic dental experience
• Difficulty getting numb
• Patients suffering from Alzheimer’s
• Difficulty controlling movement (cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s disease, etc.)

We understand the needs of our patients. The anesthesiologist will provide reliable care and expertise. We are always available to answer your questions. Please feel free to contact us.

3. Laser Assisted Endodontics

We have incorporated the Waterlase MD YSGG laser into our practice. Why? Our patients deserve the most cutting edge treatment. We are the first Endodontic practice in New Jersey to incorporate laser treatment. It is the most efficient way to destroy bacteria and sterilize a root canal. Patients typically experience less bleeding, swelling and post-op discomfort. Procedures that took several appointments to complete can now be finished in one visit. We have provided an informational page for you to see why we feel this is so important for our patients. http://lasercast.biolase.net

4. 3-D imaging and Diagnosing

Many times it is not a tooth. Our practice was the first to incorporate 3-D imaging in New Jersey. The technology provides the opportunity to study your teeth and jaw in a three dimensional look on the computer screen. We can detect problems that may never show up on traditional dental x-rays. This allows for safer and more precise treatment. Non-invasive, the images are taken externally, thereby eliminating the discomfort of gagging. Any treatment in the early stages is both cost effective and easier for the patient.

Dr. Trava lectures nationally on 3-D imaging.

5. Pre –Surgical and Cancer Screening

Before any type of major medical procedure such as hip/knee replacement, heart surgery, cancer treatment, bone marrow replacement and Fosamax treatment, make sure there are no dental infections. Our 3-D imaging will be able to diagnosis at a more accurate level then traditional dental x-rays. Bacteria can enter the blood stream. A pre-screening is an inexpensive way of keeping you healthy.
